Breaking the Georgia Golf Club Course Record: A Virtual Adventure

As you can see, this isn’t Augusta National, but we’re going to call it the Georgia Golf Club. Today, we’re attempting to break the course record here with a two-man scramble format, playing from the front tees. Putting, however, remains a challenge for me—anyone who has seen me try to putt on this simulator knows that I can’t seem to sink anything, but that’s okay. I rely on my partner a lot for that, and together, we’re going to give it our best shot.

Golf coach Southampton For reference, the course record is 63, held by the legendary Nick Price. He’s a member here and a PGA Tour pro. The member’s course record is even lower at 61, set by the “Shark” himself, Greg Norman, in 1996. So, we’ve got some serious history to contend with. To break the record, we’ll need to shoot 10 under. This might seem like a tall order, but considering the simulator greens are running fast—about 15 on the Stimp meter—anything’s possible.

Alright, grab a beverage, buckle up, and let’s get started.

Hole 1: The Warm-Up

My drive on the first hole was… let’s just say it wasn’t my finest moment. But no worries, we’re still in play! The course is playing short today, and it feels good to get the ball moving. We’re hitting our shots with plenty of spin, and everything seems to be on track. A bit short here, a little left there, but we’re just getting warmed up.

We’ve got a 105-yard approach, and the shot feels a bit fat, but it’s in the right direction. Still, this first wedge shot was one of my poorer ones, but the beauty of a scramble is that my partner has my back. We’ve got a good chance for a birdie here, and that’s exactly what we need to start strong.

Hole 2: The Par 5

The par-5 second hole is a short one at 395 yards. We’re aiming to take advantage of this one to get an easy birdie, but that didn’t quite happen. I made a silly mistake here, but we’re not giving up yet. My partner’s got this.

It’s a quick reminder that, even when things go wrong, there’s always the opportunity to recover. With Augusta just around the corner (the real one, not our simulator version), I can’t help but think of the upcoming Masters. The anticipation is real, but let’s focus on the task at hand.

Hole 3: Chipping and Putting Practice

We’re getting into the groove, and now it’s all about chipping and putting. On the greens at Georgia Golf Club, it’s no surprise they’re as slick as glass. We’re both feeling the pressure as we attempt to sink these birdie putts, but it’s a good challenge. My partner’s handling the pressure a lot better than I am—something I need to work on for sure.

I’ve got a 30-foot chip here and, although I’m a fan of the bump-and-run, it’s a tricky shot on these greens. However, I manage to get it close and save a par. Not too shabby.

Hole 4: The Long Drive

We’re onto a longer hole now, but I’m feeling the pressure as the course record looms overhead. There’s a bit of a back-and-forth about the best approach for a drive here, and honestly, I’m just trying to get the ball to the right spot. After a couple of mishits, I’m finally starting to dial in the right shots.

By the time we’re done with the hole, it’s clear: the greens are fast, the drives are important, but the short game is where we’ll either shine or sink.

Hole 5: Birdie Opportunities

We’re three under through five, which feels pretty solid. Now, we’re aiming to keep up the momentum. The course is definitely playing tough, but we’re staying in the game. A quick reminder to myself: don’t get too distracted by the beauty of the course or the thought of Augusta; we’ve got a record to break right here, right now.

Hole 6: Bunkers and Approach Shots

The next hole is a real test, with bunkers to avoid and a tricky approach shot. I’m not entirely thrilled with my shot—there’s a slight miss—but we’re still in a good spot. The simulator’s pretty forgiving with the distances, but when it comes to real-world accuracy, this hole would definitely test me more.

My partner’s got the right idea, taking a more strategic approach, and we’re making sure to avoid the hazards that seem to haunt us on this hole.

Hole 7: The Mini Driver

By now, we’ve hit a rhythm, but it’s clear we need a boost to push for that elusive 10-under score. Enter the mini driver. This is a club that I’ve not used much before, but it seems to have a little magic in it. I’m able to get a great shot in, and for a second, it feels like we might just pull this off.

Hole 8: Par Saves and Strategy

With a few shots left to go, we’re still making the course look like a challenge, but we’re handling it. Par saves, chip-ins, and good decision-making are key now. The game is tightening up, but we’ve got the skill to finish strong.

Hole 9: The Final Push

We’ve reached the final holes of our round, and the pressure is on. Every shot now counts if we want to break the record. We’re alternating between strong drives and precise approach shots. Even though things aren’t perfect, we’re still in contention. My partner’s finishing strong with some well-placed birdie opportunities.

Completing the Challenge at Georgia Golf Club: A Roller Coaster Round

We’ve had a bit of a calamity of errors today with the technology—honestly, we have no idea what’s going on! My phone just doesn’t seem to like us today. You’ll notice there’s a skip in the footage from the approach on hole 14 straight to the tee shot of hole 15, but we managed to restart things and get back on track.

Anyway, let’s dive into the round.

The Round Begins

The driver’s been really sensible so far. It’s been a tough day on the course with a few mistakes, but we’re managing to get through it. We’re currently on hole 11, hitting a 130-yard shot. I’m going with a 9-iron just to see how it reacts. I might switch to a pitching wedge depending on how it plays out.

The approach on hole 14 has been missed, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. We’ve still managed to get a solid par on it. At the end of the day, the score doesn’t matter too much as long as we keep our heads in the game.

Heading to Hole 15

We’ve made it to hole 15—right at the back pin. We need two birdies here to stay on track. What a beautiful shot this is! It’s a little deep, about three yards past the flag, but overall, it’s a solid approach. I’d say it’s a perfect shot for the situation, 120 yards in, and now we’re looking at making an eagle putt to put us in a strong position.

The pressure’s on now, but we’re keeping our cool. We just need to par out from here and we’ll be good to go. The next hole is a crucial one.

A Crucial Par Save

I hit a putt that I thought was going to drop, but it came up short. We need to par out from here. We’re on the 146-yard hole, looking at a course record score. The pressure is on, but I know we can do it.

Now we’re moving on to hole 17 and 18. The goal is to get one birdie from these two holes, which is entirely doable. The fairway’s tight, but the driver is being kind to me today, so I’m just focusing on hitting the fairway and getting to the green.

The Final Push

On hole 18, we’re playing a 257-yard shot. I’m taking it easy, just looking for a simple flick onto the green. It’s a bit to the right, but it’s still in a great position. At this point, all we need is a two-putt to finish the challenge and walk away with a solid score.

The birdie attempt is looking good, but I left it short. Still, I made the par putt, and that’s enough to complete the challenge. We’ve finished 10-under at Georgia Golf Club, with one bogey on the card. That bogey could have been avoided, but overall, I’m really happy with the result. The greens were punishing, and that made it even tougher to manage. It’s one of the hardest tests I’ve faced on a golf course.

Reflecting on the Round

It’s incredible how tough the course can be, especially with some bad breaks we had today. But we pushed through, and I’m thrilled with the outcome. We’ve completed the challenge at 10-under, and that’s something to be proud of.
